Phoenix – “You get a free hotel.
It’s not like it’s on your budget, you have to pay for it,” says the woman who asked not to be named for fear of reprisal.
The hotel, known as Etihad in the region, is part of a new wave of hotel construction in the city.
But the arrival of the popular Emirates airline, which is expected to take the business from the traditional hotel industry, has also pushed the demand for hotel accommodation sky-high.
With hotels and motels in the Phoenix area attracting more and more international travellers, demand is increasing for accommodation that is not just affordable, but luxurious, according to hoteliers.
“When you’re travelling to Dubai or Singapore or wherever, it’s not about the price, it is about the location,” said Rachael McClean, the owner of the Phoenix Hotel & Casino.
“You have to have a place that is truly a must-see destination and a place you can stay for three nights.”
Phoenix Hotel & Casinos manager and owner Rachal McClean says the arrival and growth of the hotel industry has meant that hotels and resorts are getting bigger.
“Phoenix has become a major hotel destination for many international travelers.
We’re seeing more and better-resourced resorts opening, and we’ve also seen the number of hotel rooms increase over the past couple of years.”
Phoenix, which has a population of about 13,000, has a growing population and a growing economy, with more than 20,000 residents now over the age of 65, according the Department of Planning and Development.
The trend for more hotel rooms is due in part to the rising demand for accommodation.
“Phoenix has been one of the top-10 international cities for hotel room occupancy, with the number going up every year,” said Jeff Gilder, chief economist at RBC Capital Markets.
“We have a lot of international travelers who are staying in Phoenix because of the economy, and the increased availability of hotel room options,” he said.
“As demand increases, hotel room numbers will likely increase in the future.”
“Phoenix is a great place to stay in.
It has great nightlife, it has a lot going for it, and it’s a great city to live,” said Sheryl McElroy, who lives in Phoenix.
McElroy is planning to stay at the hotel in the near future and hopes to enjoy her stay there.
“I’m looking forward to spending my vacation there and seeing the city from a whole different angle,” she said.
“This is a place I have been looking forward coming to for a while now and I’m really looking forward it.”
Hotel accommodation has become so popular in the last few years, the Phoenix Business Journal says, that “hotel rooms are now more expensive than the average home”.
“A typical suite in a hotel room in Phoenix costs $10,000 to $12,000 a night,” it reports.
“Hotel rooms in Phoenix are more expensive to rent than the median home in the US, and are now on average about $30,000.”
Hotels are being built all over the city, but the hotel business is booming, said RBC.
There are more than 200 hotels in the metropolitan area, including at least 10 that are being constructed and under construction.
Phoenix is now one of several cities in Arizona to be hit by the influx of international tourists, with hotels and other lodging facilities also being developed.
“Phoenix’s population has grown by about 200,000 since 2005, and hotel rooms have increased by almost 400,000 in the same period,” according to the Phoenix hotel industry website.
It’s a big change for Phoenix, which already had a strong hotel industry and was one of two cities in the country that has an occupancy rate of under 10%.
“This boom in hotel demand is a big part of the growth in the hotel sector, which can drive the economy and provide jobs,” said Mr Gilders.
Phoenix is also one of seven US cities that have become a hotbed for international tourism.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2018, nearly 40 per cent of the country’s population lived in hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs, and other establishments, compared to 12 per cent in 2005.
The trend has been driven by a growing number of international visitors, with some claiming that Phoenix is becoming more and less of a hotel destination, as they have more time to visit other parts of the world.
“In the past 10 years, more than half of all international visitors have visited Phoenix and we’re a major tourist destination,” said McClean.
“As we become a more globalised city, the demand has been phenomenal and we need to continue to attract more international visitors.”
The Phoenix Hotel is just one of many new hotels being built in the area.
And Phoenix is now becoming more like other
