If you’re a UK resident, you can get a new card from your local post office after an extended period of stay.
But the process may be a little bit trickier than usual.
We spoke to the post office to find out what to expect, and how to renew.

If you’ve been out of the UK for less than a year, you will need to do a bit of legwork to get your card renewed.
The post office uses a “security check” to verify that you are who you say you are, and not a fake address.
This means you will receive a confirmation email that you can enter a valid password and will then have to do the following: Enter the code into your post office website, or a computer in your office and sign in to your account, if you’re using the website.
Make sure you have a UK address and that you’ve registered for a post office account.
If the card hasn’t been renewed, contact the post Office.
If it hasn’t, contact your local Post Office.
The process may take up to a day, so it’s best to get it done in person.
What happens after the card has been renewedIf your card hasn, in fact, expired, you won’t be able to use it again for two months.
If that happens, your old card is no longer valid, and you’ll need to register for a new one.
The new card will need your name, address, date of birth and social security number.
However, if your card was issued in the UK, your details will be stored on a different server, so they won’t work.

You should also check if the card is valid before using it.
