The Resident Evil franchise has since grown immensely, with sequels to Resident Evil, Resident Evil HD, and Resident Evil Zero.
However, some fans are hoping that the franchise will get a new game in 2020.
The Resident Evil 7 remake is expected to be a reboot of the first Resident Evil game, which was released in 2011.
In a tweet, Resident Games CEO, Yosuke Hayashi, said that he is looking forward to the arrival of the next entry in the Resident Evil series in 2020, which is expected in 2017.
“This is the next generation,” he tweeted.
“I’m very optimistic about it.”
